Criteria and Requirements for Stem Cell Transplantation

Some criteria for the procedure of transplanting a patient’s own stem cells that were extracted from bone marrow:

  • Optic nerve atrophy
  • Amblyopia
  • Nystagmus
  • Dystrophy of the retinal pigment epithelium
  • Male or female
  • Age between 4 and 78 years

 

Tests to be done before transplantation:

  1. Consultation with an ophthalmologist
  2. Consultation with a neurologist
  3. Consultation with an anesthesiologist
  4. Blood test (general blood count, coagulogram, immunophenotyping of lymphocytes, determination of blood group and Rh, serological screening for viruses, liver and kidney function)
  5. OCT (optical coherence tomography)
  6. Gonioscopy
  7. Electrophysiological examination of the eye and optic nerve
  8. Computerized perimetry (with a minimumof 10% vision)
  9. Laser iridotomy (when the angle of the anterior chamber of the eyeball is narrow or closed)
